> Clamouse as research site:
dating the concretions
What do they do?
They take a boring sample from the cave and use radiochronological techniques to date the various levels of that sample.
What have they learned? (see diagram opposite)
During the same 20,000-year period of time:
- 27 cm of calcite was formed in warm periods
- 2 cm of calcite was formed in cold periods
Conclusion:
Caves record past climate changes and serve as a memory of time.
